The Grudge American Remake: Yay or Nay?

Seeing as I seem to like Ju-on so far, I wanted to see what the American version was like. However, I have a low tolerance for horror and can't seem to figure out if the American or the Japanese was scarier.
Every comparison I see is "American is gorier, Japanese is boring", but they all still insist that the American's horror scenes were a flop compared to the Japanese. I didn't flinch at the Jap version, but I don't want to watch the Ame version and be scarred like I was with Scream. (What parent lets their 6-year-old watch that alone in the dark, anyway?)
Really, I don't watch horror on a normal basis, but the last Ame horror I watched was "The Devil Inside", and I didn't flinch at that. Still, everyone insists that wasn't scary anyway, so my confidence in Ame horror is really not that great.

Basically, for those of you who have seen The Grudge in America, what's your rating on how "scary" it is?

I GOTTA SAY STUFF.

I'm supposed to put epic people here and explain why I like them, how I met them, etc., etc., mostly because the "guilt" of having them put me in their IDs while I continued to act like I didn't notice got to me.

There was that girl who got pissed about a couple of people's joke links and linked us all to Demi Lovato's Skyscraper because she was so clueless as to the fact that none of them actually went to her page. You and I were two of the evil link trolls.
I ended up watching you because I wanted to keep tabs on the lulzy comments you got from other people who fell for the link. But it's not like I even comment-stalk you that often anymore. I just comment on screenshots now.
